Hair Queen LA Partners with The Shade Room to Feed 400+ Homeless

Hair Queen LA, a high-end wig shop in Los Angeles, is known not only for their celebrity clientele but also for their philanthropic efforts. In August of 2020, HQLA assembled their employees to volunteer their time to help their local community; distributing water and meals along with hand sanitizer, masks, and handwritten signs with positive messages to the homeless.

Several months later, the team was back at it again but with a larger goal. Despite feeding over

200 homeless the first time around, the team aimed to double it. Catching the attention of the Shade Room owner Angelica “Angie” Nwandu, money was donated to Hair Queen LA to aid in the effort and they were able to do just that.

Previously, Hair Queen LA reached out to Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine and placed a large order to make enough food to feed 200. This time around, to shake things up, the team recruited Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles to provide the 400 plates of food.

Once again, the HQLA team closed the shop on a Saturday to dedicate their time to giving back. The team drove to Roscoe’s, loaded up their vans with the food and hit the streets of Downtown, Los Angeles. Skid row was the area of focus as the team unpacked the van setting up tables so that the homeless could easily create a line and walk up to grab their pre-plated food. HQLA hit several different locations in the Skid Row area providing a meal and a bit of hope to approximately 400.

After speaking to several members of the team and asking what compelled them to donate their time, they collectively expressed the importance of giving back when you are in a position to, especially in the times that we are in now where many people have been subject to losing their jobs.

To commemorate the day, the team had every person that they gave a plate to sign a poster board resulting in a poster filled with signatures which they framed and now hang in the shop as a constant reminder to do good.
