The Importance of Healthy Boundaries – By Dennis Schleicher

1 min read

Sometimes I need to take a break from friends or family to recharge myself or think clearly about a problem. To help make these periods of downtime bearable, here are some coping tips. I hope they can help you find time to care for yourself and your loved ones without triggering a spiral into depression or isolation.

Have some stability in your life; this is your time to shine! Find hobbies and activities you enjoy. Be deliberate in setting boundaries with others; this is NOT a time for socializing! Be realistic; the job market is tough, and there are few guarantees in this fast-changing world.

Be smart with your money and invest in the things that will lead to long-term wealth. There’s no time to be introspective; get working! If you feel like quitting your job is the only option, consider why.

Consider whether there are things about your current job that could be better (or worse).

Consider whether certain other items about your life are better left undisturbed. If you feel strongly about changing jobs or career direction, talk to your boss about it. If their response is”  “No,” then consider another route for change.

To be brave is to know when enough is enough and respect every person’s right to define their ideas of happiness, health, balance, and success. You’re sorry they feel sad. You’ll wait for them to get better. But you can only be tragic and make amends for so long. If you don’t stop and tend to yourself, you win.

Life is too short to be sick, stressed out, miserable, unhappy, or lonely all the time. Staying sane and happy requires taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially. If you want to live a whole happy life, it is time to take care of yourself.

It is time to be aware of the symptoms of psychological illness like an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. These symptoms need to be identified and treated as part of healthy relationships with friends, family, colleagues, religious leaders, doctors, etc.

It is important to focus on the positive in everyday life. If you think your life has lost a sense of balance, you need to learn more about this. Balance does not have too much or too little money in your bank account.

It can track your spending and have enough money in the bank to cover unexpected expenses. In addition, it means being realistic about what you can afford to do with your time and energy. Be sure to distribute your time equally among the things you can control and those that can’t be.

Sometimes I need to take a break (even from friends) to stay sane.
